Representing the birch tree, Berkano the eighteenth rune, pronounces "B". The shape of this rune calls back the bosoms of the Great mother : The Earth. The birch, tree with white trunk, symbolizes the regeneration, the spring and the return of the heat after the cold. The birch is also traditionally associated with the purification, it is the first tree to grow after the ice melts.
Berkano signals a new beginning, its figure the 18, is the double of the sacred figure, the 9. Therefore it is the symbol of the fulfillment, the revival at an upper level.

Berkano is also a passive receiver and a force of preservation, it hides and safeguards. Berkano is the mother rune who carries within it all the humans.
